Science Snoopers made a visit to the First Grade on January 30th. We learned all about Groundhogs. Did you know that groundhogs are also called "Whistle Pigs", because they are fat and make a whistling sound. They hibernante from November through March. They lower their heart rate to do this. We found out that the story of the groundhog's shadow is just that...a story. It originated in Puxatawney, Pennsylvania. We then enjoyed making our own groundhogs. It was educational and fun!
The First Grade had a great time making their Family Turkeys. They all received ribbons and each family turkey was very unique. Bravo to each first grader and their family. Gobble, Gobble!!! Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Lewis's Grade 1 class and Ms. Mitchell's Grade 6 class had a great time at their Fall Festival on Halloween. Grade 6 is their buddy class so they shared in the festivities. The sixth grade read a Halloween book to their buddy, shared special treats and played musical chairs.
Mrs. Lewis's Grade 1 class had a visit from Officer Ron Glifford of the Hamden Police Department. He spoke to the children about Stranger Danger, Halloween safety, and a police officer's role in the community. The children really enjoyed Officer Ron, and we thank him very much for coming to Saint Stephen School.
