Week of 29-Sep-2008

On Friday, September 26th we planted pumpkin, carrot, and sumflower seeds in Ziploc bags with a moist paper towel. We will be observing and recording the growth of our seeds for at least ten days. Future updates to follow.

Math: We have started Chapter Two on Addition. So far we have learned how to look for doubles and how to get to ten when adding three or more addends. Remember you child will have a Quick Quiz once a week on addition and subtraction facts.

In Language we will have our Chapter Two test on complete and simple subjects and combining sentences. We have been reviewing in class. The test is on Wed. Oct 1st.

A few gentle reminders:

Thank you to all who have continued to make donations to our classroom. If anyone has any Art projects or ideas for the Fall or Halloween, please let me know.

Week of 22-Sep-2008

Our first Science experiment was a huge success. We learned that moss is a simple plant. It has 3 parts: stem, leaf, and root like parts. They drew, colored and labeled the parts of moss. The best part was touching and looking at the moss they brought in.

On Friday, September 26th we will be doing another experiment. If anyone has any left over vegetable seeds, can you please have your child bring them in by Friday.

Math: We are finishing Chapter One on Place Value. Our test is on Friday, September 26th. Please review this chapter with your child. The pages are 30-62.

Beginning the week of September 29th we are going to be having Quick Quizzes on addition and subtraction facts once a week. Please review addition and subtraction facts daily with your child. This will help your child when we start to work on multiplication and division.

Religion:Test Friday, September 26th on Chapter 2 We Believe pgs. 32-40. Please review these pages with your child. They will come home on Thursday with a Review.

A few gentle reminders:

The Field Trip on Friday, September 19th was wonderful. Everyone had a good time.

Thank you to all who have continued to make donations to our classroom. If anyone has any Art projects or ideas for the Fall or Halloween, please let me know.

Week of 15-Sep-2008

I was so pleased to meet many of you at our first Home School Association Meeting. I hope I was able to address many of your questions or concerns.

A Few Reminders

We have completed our first chapter in English. We studied: writing complete sentences, punctuation, and the subject and predicate of sentences. The test will be on 16-Sep-2008.

Week of 08-Sep-2008

Look at what we're studying:

Math: In Math our first chapter concentrates on Place Value. We have been studying and learning how to write numbers in their standard, expanded and word form. Math can be difficult and hard for many students. Be patient. I will continue to review these areas daily.

Religion: Our first Religion test will be on Thursday, September 11th. We Believe Chapter 1 p. 20-28. I encourage you to study with your child and review the whole chapter using the questions at the end of each lesson as a review.

Social Studies: Our first Social Studies Test will be on Friday, September 12th. We will review in class but your child should study at home each night. The pages for the test are 10-26. Again I would recommend studying the entire chapter. Read each lesson and use the questions as a review.

Book Report: Your child's first book report theme is Stuffed Animal Research. The forms were sent home today. Please read through the information. Your child will need your guidance with this assignment. Please guide them, but remember it is their report. The report is due October 1st.

Odds and Ends

I know it can be stressful at the beginning of a school year. New teacher, homework policies etc. Please be patient. Your child will get into a routine and thrive as a Grade 3 student with my help and yours.

I am always looking for new ideas for Art projects and volunteers to read or do a holiday project. Please let me know if you are interested.

I am going to try to keep an updated web page either weekly or monthly. I look forward to meeting all of you tomorrow night, September 9th at our first Home School Meeting. Hopefully, I will be able to answer any or all questions or concerns you may have about Third Grade.
