Math-6: We have had a terrific time solving problems with fractions and equations. We have estimated, added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided (SHAZAM!) fractions and mixed numbers and I am proud of the progress each student has made thus far. We have moved on to integers and integer operations. What fun to discover new numbers! Grade 6 has also learned all about coordinate planes, plotting points( so many!) and to graph linear equations and discuss the slope of lines this quarter. Great job with the integer review game! Our unit test will be on March 29th.
We have had IOWA testing this month and a few snow days but we kept on task! Great work! We will be covering Geometry, Percents, and Probability.
Science-6: Our dioramas were fabulous! The students created dioramas of various biomes, wrote an informative paper, and presented their project to the class. We worked on eye contact, audibility, posture, and concise information with our presentations. The class as a whole did an outstanding job! We studied natural cycles and discussed how materials that living things need to survive move through the Earth's ecosystems. We diagramed the water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles which are now gracing the halls outside our classroom. Beautiful work. We will continue our study of "The Living Planet" and will also cover "Earth Science" and "Matter and Energy". Grade six will be presenting science experiments and using the Scientific Method (as always) very soon. I am proud of my grade six scientists. More info later....
D.A.R.E. program: We will be having our graduation party in May. TBA!

Grade 6 recently went on a field trip to Sleeping Giant Park on November 3rd. We had a wonderful time hiking up the Giant and collecting our Scavenger Hunt items! We reached the castle and took a much needed rest! The air was crisp, the sky was blue, and the sun was shining bright. This was definitely a terrific way to enhance our How Living Things Grow and Respond unit in science. A special thanks to George Fanolis for taking such a great picture!
