Grade 7 Update:

Math-7: We went shopping! We wish we actually did go to the mall to practice our knowledge of percentages but we "virtually" shopped instead. The whole class did an outstanding job with ratios, rates, percents, percent increase and decrease. Each student was given "$100.00" to go out to eat, figure the tip, shop for a CD, find and compare sale prices of Jazzy Jeans and Perfect Pants, find the percent decrease of a jacket on sale, purchase a three scoop, double topping ice cream and figure the 6% sales tax. Students figured all necessary math problems all the while keeping a running account of money spent. Some students chose to give the final amount to charity....what a great result! Real life topics such as savings accounts, loans, college funds, credit cards, and principal and interest were also addressed in class. This was a wonderful way to teach percents!

We will be moving on to Integers, The Patterns of Algebra: Equations and Graphs , and Geometry: Polyhedrons and Surface Area.

The Polygon Party was a great success!! We loved measuring our food, finding the area and then eating the results!

Geography-7: Our unit on Latin America has taken us on a journey through Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean Islands, and Brazil. We will continue to explore the Andean Countries of Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile. Seventh grade has been creating outstanding Power Point Presentations focusing on culture, economy, religion, traditions, and populations of these countries. The students have continued to learn about slide layouts and design, graphing, animations, and presentations. We will be covering Europe next!
