January


      Happy New Year to the entire St. Stephen School Community! A meeting was held on January 5th for our First Communion parents. The children are working on two digit addition with and without regrouping.

      Our Science Dioramas come in by January 20th the Theme- Habitats. The children and their families worked hard on this project. Each child presented their diorama.

      The January Book Report Theme - Read a story about an animal. Come dressed as that animal use index cards to write what animal you are- what do you eat? Where do you like? Each child read their cards. This was due January 27th.

      Special Person Luncheon was held on January 25th for Grade 2. After lunch, they visited the Book Fair. Grade 2 prepared to sing our school Song. It was sung on Spirit Day. Mrs. Ferraro wrote the school song in 2001.

      Also, the song "Pants on the Ground" is sung each morning to start the day. It's from the American Idol.

      Religion - The children received their First Reconciliation on Friday, December 4th. Congratulations to all of the children.

      Reading - January Book Report: read a book about an animal. Come dressed up and answering the questoins on index cards. This is due by Wednesday, January 27th.

      Math - We worked on graphing and multiplication has begun, adding ones and tens.

      Penmanship - Continuing with cursive writing. However, daily manuscript review.

      English - Worked on action words and past tense verbs.

      Health - Keeping yourself healthy.

      Phonics - Worked on long vowel sounds.

      Spelling - Daily Pre-Tests, Weekly Tests - To prepare write each word 3x's and write each word in a sentence. In their spelling books, find each word in the glossary, write the meaning.

      Science - Diorama Project: Habitats, Land Habitat or Water Habitat, due by Wednesday, January 20th. Science test is on January 13th.

      Social Studies - Where we live - land and water.

      Advent Prayer Service - The students sang "He Will Come Our Emmanuel" on the altar for the entire school, at the end of the prayer service.

      Polar Express Party - Friday, December 18th, the second and the first graders were able to wear their pajamas to school. They watched the Polar Express in the affernoon. Cookies and punch were enjoyed by all.

      Religion - We have completed our instructions for First Reconciliation. The ceremony took place on Friday, December, 4th. Next, we are preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

      Reading - The children have enjoyed all of thier stories. The class has one more unit, then we begin our second book. During this time, the daily boardwork is worked on.

      Math - Daily review of addition and subtraction. We are working on mode, median, and range. Introducing the times tables.

      Penmanship - We have begun cursive writing, however, we still have daily manuscript reviews.

      English - The class is working on the present tense, verbs, and action words.

      Health - Talked about feelings, nurses, doctors, good food, and exercise.

      Phonics - Worked on long vowels, short vowels, and compound words.

      Spelling - Continuing our weekly tests, putting the words in sentences, writing each word and their glossary meaning. In our weekly computer class the student use Microsoft Word to type the letters in alphabetical order, then type a sentence for each word.

      Science - Chapters on living and non-living things. We also began to learn about different types of animnals.

      Social Studies - Talked about community living.
