Three Cheers For Learnin' & Lovin' It!

December

During the month of December the students have been busy with multiplication facts. Mad minute quizzes have been given daily to reinforce multiplication skills. Keep practicing! It is so important that these facts are memorized. It will only make life easier in math for the students.

The students worked on informative and persuasive writing pieces. One assignment consisted of persuading Santa to choose them to guide his sleigh, since Rudolph was unavailable. Some were very convincing. Great job by all!

We ended the shortened month of December with Polar Express Day! The students came to school dressed in their pajamas ready to board the train. We read the story and viewed the movie The Polar Express. We enjoyed some hot chocolate and cookies. Our whole day was devoted to fun, educational activities based on The Polar Express.

Thank you to all who participated in The Giving Tree! You were all so very generous!!

November

Before leaving for Thanksgiving, the fourth graders tried to pin the top hat on the turkey!

The students had a fun-filled November. To begin our unit on "Colonial America", the class took part in a computer based lesson with the use of the Smartboard. This hands-on, interactive experience clearly showed the students how life was on the Mayflower and as a settler. The students then took the role of a pilgrim child. They wrote a diary entry describing their journey to America and how life was once they settled. A day was set aside for the students to actually experience some of the daily activities the pilgrims had to do. We churned butter, made cornbread, soap and potpourri sachets. To conclude our unit on "Colonial America", we had a feast. This feast was a bit different then the traditional Thanksgiving! e decided to celebrate our ethnicity. Each student brought in a food item based on their ethnic background to share with the class. We enjoyed delicious foods from South Korea, Peru, China, Africa, Ireland, Italy, and more!!! Everything was tasty!

A big thanks to all the parents who helped with our activities!

October

October is here and the fourth graders are working hard!!!!

In Religion class, we are learning about our conscience and making good choices. In computer class, we just finished writing a news article. The students are busy learning pre-algebra. The kids are doing very well with variables and expressions, and finding the missing addends. In language class, the children have learned about simple predicates/complete predicates, and compound predictes. They are doing great and putting their skills taught to use in their daily writing.

The students took on the role of a real estate agent and had to create a haunted house. The class then had to write a boo-tiful, descriptive article about their haunted house that was for sale in the newspaper. These great articles and haunted houses are on display in the grade 4 hallway. Come and visit if you dare!!!!!!!

Thanks to Mrs. Anderson for getting the kids the real estate booklets.
