Mrs. Calamita's

        Kindergarten Class

December

It has been quite a busy month for Kindergarten.

Religion We learned that the season of Advent is a time of preparation for the birth of Jesus. We attended prayer services to light the Advent Wreath candles. We heard many stories on the birth of Jesus and the miracle of the season.

Math Children have completed units on patterns, position words, geometric shapes and algebra!! We are learning 1:1 ratio (one cookie to one dish) recognizing groups with more or fewer. This will prepare children for simple addtion. By now student should recognize 1 to 15 and count form 1 to 30.

Reading We've completed seven letter books. The letter books are: Cat, Ox, Gate, Apple, D, S, and L. Review book constantly as they come home. We are learning to read small words using these letters and the sounds they make. Blending sounds may be difficult for some at first. Have patience and praise often.

** Our next trip is to Southern Connecticut State University to see the play "Henry & Mudge". Permission slips and information has been sent home. Please have payment and return to school by January 15th.

** Kindergarten first fundraiser is a "Hats On Day" to raise cancer awareness. For $1.00 students may wear a hat to school - for $2.00 students may wear a hat and dress down clothes.
